Question about doujinshi
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows a community that is active and talks about doujinshi and sometimes scans them? It does not have to be only hentai or only art doujinshi both are welcome. Any language is fine too .
probably doujin db
Ah yup that's why I said active. They are forum dead unless there is a secret area that doesn't show up for regular members.
Unfortunately doujinshi is a niche within a niche, in Japan, and pretty much non-existent outside of it. Besides here, maybe hongfire?

You could try and start being active about discussing them here, I'm sure others will join in.
Well, the doujinshis are something you can only buy when you are in japan. If I moved out from japan then I got nothing to share anymore. Unless buying fright ticket to comicket.

As for the time being, I would like to start discussion here too.
To be truthful I do no really have much to say about doujinshi and do not know what would make a good conversation about it.

Raza, I live outside of japan and still buy doujinshi though of course not very much because it is very expensive. I wait for books that are rare or limited time and do not buy short ones that are 10 or 20 page. So it is still possible outside of japan.
I got my doujinshi either by going to AX or by shopping online. There are some people selling hentai/yaoi doujinshi in AX. On the other hand, I rarely see people selling illustration based doujinshi, which is what I want the most.
I used to buy lots of doujinshi from yahoo japan auctions using deputy services, but lately due to lack of funds and no more space in my bookshelves I just can't really do that anymore.

There's a few sites that you can use to get doujinshi online...one site off the top of my head:

http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/

its a bit pricey, just look @ http://ekizo.mandarake.co.jp/shop/en/item_s-636570.html

anyways the other is going to conventions, hendane carries a lot with them during big conventions like AX or Otakon..
In the case of Ume Aoki's doujinshi it is expensive everywhere not just mandarake because 1) she is the official Madoka character designer 2) its already been sold out twice first from conventions and then stores so everyone is selling their personal copy for a lot of money. Right now is the best time to buy it because after the number of people selling their copy reduces the price will only get higher. The prices for it are better on auctions right now.

Does hendane carry illustration or H-doujin?

Castle, that is also what I am interested in, I find there are plenty of sites with much h-doujin but much less with illustration doujinshi for sale or scanned. The art in h-doujin is not as appealing as illustration doujin i think.
Hendane carries a variety of doujins (But they mostly carried H-doujins, few to very few illustration doujins, they marked their doujins by these circlar stickers in different colors. Can't remember what each meant, and they also referred to price and genre of) but i found them rather expensive, on average when i was at the con last year they ranged from lower priced 10$ to 25$ but they average around 18$. Personally, look for rarer doujins you're willing to pay for, and just buy more common, easier to get doujins online as even with EMS s/h you'll be getting more bang for your bucks.

Wanted to get some of Mario Kaneda's (Nikka) doujins from them last year but at 18$ a doujin i could individually purchase them off of mandarake with EMS s/h and it'd still be cheaper. Carry your smartphone with you to do price comparison :P Other artist like Senmu, are much rarer to get so i'd probably purchase them from hendane if they had his.

ps: if you're worried about prices, you should veer away from importing doujins. and for deputy you almost always can double the initial price of the item and that's your price.

Those >10k yen books are exception. The Byakuya-Chakai set was close to 20k yen...

Last week I was trying to get the latest tinkle book but without success.

And of course they have some good stuff that are below 1k yen.

For me, I am just not that interested in buying doujinshi to read the comics. There are people who draw great doujin comics, like ushiki_yoshitaka and kamiya_yuu.

I know they have a good touhou collection but didn't notice any non-touhou illustration books. I am willing to pay $18 for a book, especially giving the current exchange rate. Let's see what they will have for this year AX.

Yeah, bunsun. I prefer those short doujins because I can get to see many works of good illustrators and honestly I found that those non-h doujin is harder to find on the internet and outside Japan. That why.
looks like rkgkmdk is getting yet another reprinting....best bet is to lineup overnight at a tora >_>
http://www.w-canvas.com/ also ships overseas, but never personally used them. Also, you can buy just about anything on Toranoana's site with luck/timing but you need to use a deputy they will ship to.

I ordered from them once five years ago. The payment method sucked as I had to scan and e-mail my credit card. Things may get better now as they accept paypal.
I tried Cresent Shop to get my cut a dash calenders about 2 years ago, the transaction went pretty smooth. It's Noppin now, heh :P
So lets try and kick start some discussion. What kind of doujinshi do you prefer: with a story or a collection of illustrations?

I prefer the illustration collection since they tend to focus most on the art quality, which is the reason that I like doujinshi in the first place.
I guess most people here prefer illustrations over comics. That's why they stay here. I think drawing illustration requires a different set of skills from drawing comics. For example, Tinkle draws great pictures, but their comics really suck in term of art quality..
mostly illustration doujins, mag. I still have a good amount of trouble reading the comics >.>
I hate black bars spoiler so I prefer illustration books.
Speaking of illustration book, it seems to me that Japanese and Taiwanese doujinshi are mainly handled by the authors themselves, while mainland Chinese doujinshi are collaborated (ie. multiple artists in one single book). Does anyone know if it is sure and why?
HI,

Can anyone recommend any other doujinshi websites based in Japan that can ship to US?

Can you also provide website links?

I see 2 on here all ready:

http://www.w-canvas.com/

Thank you for your help,
James
