tag type: artist

Artist tags describe the person that drew the image, and are distinguished by their yellow color. The full list of artist tags in use at Moe is available here, and the database of artists with information associated with them is here. Change a tag to the artist type by prefixing it with "artist:" (ex artist:tony_taka).

Tagging an image with its artist(s) is the most important thing you can do. If there is a tagging conflict between an artist name and some other tag type, the artist will usually get precedence, and the others will be retagged with a qualifier.

Artist tags usually represent one person, while circle tags represent groups of artists. Artists working collaboratively on "official" materials such as Tinkle or CLAMP are typed as artists, but this is uncommon.

Like character tags, Asian artist names are usually in the familyname_givenname format, unless they are commonly known by the western order, such as Tony Taka or Range Murata.

In most cases, especially in cel-style animation posts like post #98188, the person or people doing the lineart usually gets the artist credit (often the first name, listed next to either "原画", "イラスト", or "illustration"). If the colorist is notable or has a distinct style, like RICCA, that can be tagged as well. Any collaboration images such as post #97444 should be tagged with all the artists.

Ways to qualify artists
Some options you have for artists that may have the same romanized name, or even the same name in kanji. Except for very famous artists, if the artist's real name is known, use that as the tag, not a pen name.

  • artist_name_(artist) if the artist shares the same name as a character or other tag type. For instance Noda Megumi the artist compared to noda_megumi the character.
  • artist_name_(circle_name) Example: Shino that belongs to the circle Eefy has the tag shino_(eefy).
  • artist_name_(pixiv_handle) E.x.: uni (gugurutan)
  • artist_name_(site_name) like ryou (kimagure) whose website is http://www.geocities.jp/kimagure6/ .
  • artist_name_(studio) if there are two artists with the romanized same real name, but different spellings and one is known to work at a particular game or animation studio. Example: Sasaki Mutsumi the eroge artist and Sasaki Mutsumi the animator.
  • As a last resort use artist_name_(kanji) like Rei (玲衣) because no other information can be found about the artist.
