Manatsu no engawa nite (On the Verandah in Midsummer)
日本の一景、と聞いて真っ先に思いついたのが、真夏の縁側と正月のお宮参りでした。
この絵を描いたのは冬の寒い時期で、早く暑い夏が来ないかな、という私の願望が入っております。
夏休み、田舎の祖父母の家に遊びに来た孫と友達、という感じで描きました。
When I heard the theme, ‘a Japanese scene’ I immediately thought of a verandah in midsummer and visiting a shrine on New Year's day. I drew this illustration in the cold depths of winter and it expresses my longing for the heat of summer to come again soon.
The scene depicts a girl who has come to visit her grandparents in the country with her friends. |
