If the images are exactly the same, add a duplicate tag to one of them and parent/child them. These images aren't, so I just parented them.

I've always (I think) added dupe to any image of the same, reguardless of size or quality. So... we should just parent them, correct?

Sorry, for exactly the same I meant same image regardless of size or quality. I just think that if there are variations within the images, they aren't really dupes and should just be parented.

Judging if there is sufficient variation in an image can be hard. if you are not sure please flag as a duplicate, and a mod will make a decision.

Judging which dupe should be deleted can also be hard--I've often resorted to loading both copies in Photoshop layers and using subtractive blending to see what the differences are--which is why it sometimes takes us a while to get around to cleaning up dupes (it's also boring)...

I agree it is a hard decision to make. It makes you feel bad if you have to delete one of two perfectly fine images, but we have to make a judgement call on such things.

I have been spending some time at the weekends tidying up dupes, so anything flagged as a duplicate will eventually be dealt with.
