I'm tempting to add jpeg_artifacts to all suemura/konomiya scans :p
this original file uploaded onto AP was horrible
yay..let's spend hours in filtering and adjusting just to ruin everything at the end by introducing tons of jpeg artifacts...i don't get them..( ̄へ ̄)
because spoiler
I can get it in that meaning :)
Why re-save a JPEG as a PNG? You can't get back what was already lost :P The extra filtering in this made a halo effect everywhere around the lines.
Here is the original.

This post is what it looked like after I filtered it slightly.

Here is this post, in JPEG 11/12 (I forget which one). I can't fix everything of course, but I didn't want to introduce new artifacts again by saving in JPEG.
Oh, I see. I don't see much different between your clean-up and the PNG version of your clean-up. There are artifacts in both. But like you said, only so much you can fix.

I was talking about who scanned that, i also do some light filtering like Aurelia since jpeg artifacts on defaults are terrible. I bet suemura keeps tiffs or pngs of his scans, this might be some professional trolling (,,#゚Д゚)
I save JPEGs back to JPEG when I'm filtering artifacts, usually at max quality. It's usually not worth turning a small artifacted image into a 10+ mb partially-recovered one, and max quality shouldn't add any new artifacts if it was previously JPEGged.

There's a pretty significant difference, if you're close enough to see the original JPEG artifacts in the first place. It's a little strong in places (the background's muddy), but that's mostly a trade-off.

That halo was already there; most likely USM. That probably made the JPEG artifacts worse, too.
