Child posts/hiding
Currently, children posts are hidden from the index. I'm thinking of adding an explicit "hide this from the default index" flag to do this, and making children posts not hidden.

Hiding fixed "source" posts from the index isn't very useful, since they're usually buried pages down by the time they have a fix, anyway.

It'll clean up posting things like photoshops: we can just child them and not have to worry about reparenting later on.

It also cleans up cases where we want to hide a post but there isn't a clear "parent", such as index pages. (We currently parent this to some other post in the pool, which is a bit of a hack.)
Well, I have no complaints for doing this considering I was asking if this could be implemented a couple weeks ago.

Just to be clear, the change would make child images show up on the index by default and there would be an option in your Account page (or something) if you prefer to have them hidden?
No, child posts would never be hidden. It'd only be there for associating closely related posts (variants/edits/photoshops) and not for hiding anything.
"I'm thinking of adding an explicit "hide this from the default index" flag to do this"

How would the "hide this from the default index" flag work? I guess I mistakenly assumed this would be an account setting. Instead it's a per image thing? It's probably better that way anyways.
Just a toggle next to "note locked", etc.
What are your thoughts on having no hiding?
It's useful to not have secondary parts of things like magazine scans in the index.

I'll be doing some monochrome batches, too, and we may want to keep the bulk of some of those out of the index, too.
