Does downloading high res scans stop you from buying the artbooks?
I've been wondering this since moeimouto is such a good place to look for high res scans of miscellaneous artbooks and suches. Has downloading from here stopped you from buying the artbooks or illustration book of them?

For me, nope. It just wanna make me get a copy of them myself even more ^_^
Buy Buy Buy, never ending amount to buy. Plus not everything gets scanned.

Broke, broke, broke ^^. I'll get some after i get my tax refund , lol or i'll save for that new computer i've been wanting to get ^_^
Buying some but if I find something for dl I don't spend money to buy em, it's just way to costly/annoying to import things like this from Japan, only thing I do buy is mostly my faw artists works.
I buy. I buy if I like what I see and it's available. Though my collection is probably small compared to some of you. I currently own roughly 15 artbooks and a few more coming.

I only own about 10 artbooks only. You're ahead of me ^^
if artbooks would be locally available here... maybe i´d buy some...

but importing isnt cheap and sucks without credit card

Same with me. I can't find any artbooks in my place. Buying with import will cost my budget too much.

True. My last amazon.jp purchase, which was like 7 months ago, ended up about 110$ for 4 artbooks and the international s/h, cause amazon.jp only uses EMS now.

How to buy in amazon.jp?
I don't know how to register. I find japanese's register page only.
I go here http://www.nippon-export.com/ I've bought most of my books from here because it's in english. And I find the shipping is expensive but only slightly worse than anywhere else I may order from. Local stores don't carry what I'm looking for and it would cost me the same if they ordered it other than me. So I look for myself. If I could read Japanese I would order from places like amazon.jp
I've only ever used HLJ...

Any other recommended exporters?

Ill make a mini tutorial for you ^^

(My screen shot isn't working at the moment, so I can't do the image tutorial for you >.<)

Before that, you much have the asian language installed, or you cannot see the japanese characters. And you must be able to type the kana, hiragana or kanji to do any searching. If you cannot do that, there's no use trying to find them.

Let's say that you can either type it yourself or you found a site that has the characters already done for you and you just copy and paste.

1.Go to the amazon.jp site. Under the blue tabs, there should be 7 tabs, and there's a tab to the right of that that says "In English", click on that.

2. As a example, i'm gonna be searching for Mikeou, (みけおう), so paste that or what ever you're searching for in amazon.jp search box.

3. The first result is her artbook, Mikeou Artworks: Kira Kira Reki. I'm pretending to buy that book for this example, which I'll eventually get ^^. Since amazon.jp default the language to Japanese, go to the right of the screen and click on "Would you like to see this page in English?".

4. That will translate the page for you to some English.
5. Assuming you want this book, click on add to shopping cart.
6.Check the items you're buying and see if you have what you want and quantity and click on proceed to checkout.
7. Again the text is in Japanese, so click on the top where it says "Would you like to see this page in English ? "
8. Now it's English now, enter your email, and proceed onward. The next screen is just for passwords and other necessary informations.
9. Since I cannot use my email again for another account, the next page will just be more information, and from there it should be self explaintory.

Oh, before you do that. Do know that Amazon.jp "WILL NOT SHIP PVC FIGURES!"
*THEY SHIP ARTBOOKS THOUGH
  • Other than artbooks and books, like mangas, I haven't bought anything else. So other stuff I don't know.

There is many things they say they don't ship but still do it, such as games :P just to fill you in, it seems they don't trully folow the policy.

Many Japanese games have tags such as do not sell outside Japan so, they just say they don't but still do, nobody really cares :P

Sony Computer Entertaiment Europe does and will sue Amazon if they notice someobdy can import PS3 games
I'd buy alot if I could but... most sites don't ship into EU...

I don't feel like shipping it around the world (money is no problem for me) just so I could get it, say waiting 1 week+.

I find the Digital world (as in scans) much easier to abuse, like the pics, although most may not fill up the original. There still "good enough".

Besides, most stuff that I DO want is limited... Therefore the Digital world saves me from that. I know it's free but I wouldn't pay for shitty scans from people have no experience with editing. Same goes with Music (Why sould I pay for shitty mp3s?)

Damn Comiket...
Yeah same thing. I really hate editing really crappy scans that are saved in Jpeg. Too much artifacts to remove along with quality loss.

The only reason I download scans is to extract out, no other point.

I've just placed an order with them for some artbooks. I'll see what they are like with shipping to the EU
Ordered on the 11th of Feb, delivered on the 25th. Not bad at all on shipping.

Kazuma Kaneko Works I & II so not really moe material.

Depends a lot on the item you order. Also there's a lot of hidden material that you can only search through isbn numbers or directly in japanese due to a wrong romajinization.
I ordered an artbook I seen some scans here uploaded from vita : post #8114, post #8110 etc.

Ordered the 13th
higurashi no naku koro ni matsuri ofuishiyaru gaidobutsuku Ready to be shipped
I did notice some strangeness about Yesasia...

Can you see any sign of 'Yutaka Izubuchi - Artbook : Izubuchi Artworks'(Izubuchi アートワークス) there?
The PM system is kinda broken...

If you didn't receive my PM. http://www.nippon-export.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=24323 but Amazon.jp are saying it is delayed until June. At least that will give me room to save some cash for it.

Searching for the ISBN looks like it isn't there. I usually contact costumer support of yesasia if I don't find anything, so far they have accepted almost all my requests, providing a link of amazon or other japanese provider... but they take like 15days~ in confirm it
15 days? Ewwie that can be quite long of a wait period.
i will buy the artbooks....
having artbooks is different from scans...
even the hi-res one....

That is the right thing to do.
The only one I *have* bought were from seeing scans. There are few better ways of finding artists you like, especially when you're on the wrong side of an ocean.
