So I've been thinking hosting one.

I'm getting a 100/100mbit connection soon, and I thought about building this server.

First of all: What's the stuff needed for running *booru? Mysql? or any other stuff? I'd appreciate some info here.

Second: Is 100mbit enough or should I scrap the idea?
(If so then please admin2 feel free to delete this thread/topic)

I mainly thought about HQ stuff but pointed to a more different way than moe. Perhaps like ero was?

Let me reply to most of those questions.

1st) 100mbit is more than enough for konachan.com right now, moe.imouto currently uses 2 servers of 100mbit but 100mbit should be more than enough for a start.

2nd) Requirements: Unix box and some knowledge, at least 1GB of RAM if you want to upload HQ stuff and want to be resized properly, Ruby on Rails, A bunch of gems and dependencies, postgresql and patience

And on a side note, ero is now merged with moe, so you can upload hq quality ero scans here.

Thanks, this should kepp me busy til' next week. Although I got some changes to make, cuz right now I'll be having 2 ISP's and that's kinda lame.

2-3 months ago, moe had about 4-5k pics, now it has over 10k. I wonder why.. the joint with ero may have been a bad thing. I wouldn't mind having 2 boards, but bills comes before boards right?

There weren't more than 50 pics added a month, now we get like 1000+ every month, thats kinda absurd, although I kinda like most pornographic pics. Some are just tentacles or other "junk".

So shouldn't these go to other boards (cuz I thought we were aiming for "moe" only pics) even if there HQ.

It was not a matter of server bills (afaik), it was a matter of maintenance tasks, merging it makes you only take care of a board.

Eg. Is not the same update and tweak one board than two

Agreed. It would be much simpler to only manage 1 board instead of 2 separate ones.

I usually assume most boards don't have the resources for a lot of 5-20 meg high-res scans being uploaded, and wouldn't want too many of them.
