How about having the high res link say "High resolution (6000x4000, 12mb)", have text at the top that just says "this image has been resized, click High resolution to see the original [ ] click here to hide this message". That way, people are just informed about it at first per account (or cookie/system or whatever so it works for anon), maybe reenabling the message if they have samples turned off and then turn them back on. That'd keep from cluttering up the post page forever.
