Hermaphrodites don't tend to have both a working penis and a working vagina, though. They tend to have non-working quasi-penises and partially-working vaginas. Or they have a non-working amalgam of the two.

Actually, as a born intersex, yes, that is the actual term to describe people like me, the hormones that construct each sex's genitals counter the effects of the other sex's hormones. Most often a child will be born with ambiguous genitals or atypical genitals that don't exactly fit what defines someone as being female or male.

Worse still is the view by many doctors that a child needs to look between their legs in order to know what they are and how to act. The dumb asses actually discount how hormones shape brain development.

In my case, I was surgically altered as a young child for my genitals to look male, but it turns out that I'm female, have natural breasts, even have a monthly cycle of cramps, no adams apple, etc.

If you want the real scoop on intersexed people, I found someone actually created a play list on youtube containing several documentaries on the reality of the subject, right down to one video showing the magic ruler used to decide what sex to put onto a baby. Yes, these sex change surgeries are done to babies before the age of 3 !
