Source file happens to be an indexed 8-bit colormap image, that means total color count can't exceed 256. For example, source image has only 209 colors, which is good for png compression, while jpeg-encoded has 407197 unique colors due quantization. Of cource, image initially was created full 24-bit colored and than converted to reduce filesize for web site which you should do too! Not everyone has fast connection.
