I've been seeing many "medieval weapon" but not "sword" posts lately - is it OK to tag "sword" or possibly change "sword" to something more generic?

we already have a sword tag. I'm not really sure what you are talking about. Sword is about as generic as it gets for such an item.

sword is pretty much a catchall tag for bladed weapons on this site, as far as I can tell.

But, yeah, it's really more of a lance.

Lance, spear, javelin, etc. They are all polearms. If you want a generic tag for those kind of weapons.
