Three fingers is irrelevant, It's very simple to have your index finger and thumb hidden from that perspective.

Maybe not if you see it from above, you can at least see 4 or even all 5 with that perspective. And try to do the same with an object that stands, put right hand on it, then left. The movement normally would have you put your pinky in front and the other 3 fingers on top, then thumb on the back.
