Because some things simply don't shift well into anime. And whenever people try to, they end up making them terrible.

Shows like Clannad though are the result of competent people being able to make decisions of taking out the bad (and lots of it) and replacing them with genuine content.
(Seriously, most of the chara routes in the original Clannad VN were terrible lol.)

That's what I was afraid of when I saw these images. This would've been as great as Clannad with Kyoto Animation helming it, now it'll be..... a JC Staff show with everything that implies. I'd love to know why KyoAni didn't want to adapt it, it's not like Air/Kanon/Clannad weren't huge successes for them that sold lots of DVDs.

KyoAni can't work on LB now because they are busy.
They have Hyouka and an upcoming adaptation from a LN called "Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai!"
KyoAni is a studio that care about quality and they said that they won't do two shows at the same time.

Maybe they'll remake LB like they did with Kanon.

I did too. If the staff from Toradora were involved I'd be looking forward to LB. Sadly they're not.

Did some reading, turns out it is mostly politics from the production side where funding for Kyoto Animation comes from. Because K-on turned out to be such a huge cash cow it didn't allow them to slot LB into their production schedule and Key didn't want to sit on the title any longer without getting it adapted. Apparently they tried to work it out so KyoAni could do it but it didn't turn out that way.
