I don't think so, in western cartoons, the animal characters sometimes get "skin peeled" funny effect, which looks like something or someone pulled out their clothes when you think what he looks like is a naked body. Some of the cartoon characters even have pants or shorts inside. So that's the reason I say a girl in animal suit is more familiar to those characters.
