If you believe Yoshitaka Amano does not draw girly men, or put "unnecessary addons" onto his characters, you must be thinking of some totally different artist.
"Female traits = Gay" is such a trite generalization I don't even know where to start. You might as well just say "All Guys That Women Find Attractive = Gay" because that is always what people mean by it.
Locke looks kinda weird, but you can notice he's a man... and a cool man. You see Cloud... UGH.
Amano tries to design chars that try to resemble the "fantasy" part of the FF games. Nomura is just another random animu designer which was lucky to design a bunch of overrated emos.

Okay, I admit it. Vincent is like one of the very few non-failures from Nomura.
The official coolest FF chars:
-The warrior. -The black mage. -The onion kid. -Cecil. -Cid. -Galuf. -Cole. -KEFKA. -Sabin. -Cyan. -Any other created by Amano. -Laguna (yep, another exception from Nomura).

well....a lot of guys do like yuri but that doesn't mean we like yaoi...and in some way it is bad for a hero(male one) to be gay.....at least that is how guys think about(well I am not saying there aren't exceptions)....

And during the 128 bit era, fortunately, a lot of people got tired of that kind of designs and stuff tended to become more simple but better.
Of course, if you started playing RPGs with FF7 you'll think he's one of best designers ever.

yeah...me too,when I just said Tetsuya have cool characters this dude started to insult him and his designs with some craps....but I don't remember I asked his or anybody elses opinion...if somebody hate something that others like he just need to shut up when he supose to,not to start some fights......>_>

Welcome to the internet. Unnecessary expression of opinions is what keeps this place running. As for the topic, I kinda agree with kyoushiro. I've never found Tetsuya's designs especially awesome in any way, they just look generic.
