Also the "clothes" she's wearing looks tight around her breast and such so that may be the artist reason.

over 7 years agoGiven that, I think the artist does do his niche quite well. Although little unique touches like this do tend to inherently look a bit over the top / fetishized regardless due to the stylized nature of the anime aesthetic.

over 7 years agoif he wants to do it, he will, because he can, its the work he constructs and it has his unique intentions on it. its bound to cause varied reactions, like u can see here on the comments. but what picture doesnt cause varied reactions? i think the most regular and equal the responses to a work are, the more boring and poor the work is, generally speaking... if it causes difference and discussion, something shook people, reached them, made them conscious of something they werent before, and i think its a great thing in itself.
indeed since anime is simplified everything u try tweaking a little causes some weirdness. i guess we are just overly saturated with what is considered "real anime". time to widen our horizons was due ages ago, i wish people would snap out of it soon and be a little less close minded at least. its not like "traditional anime style" will disappear...

For example Blizzard Entertainment, previously known for pretty typical 'Western' fantasy style art in World of Warcraft and Diablo have now with Overwatch done a really fresh aesthetic that seems to be between 'anime' and pixar which resonates wildly with weebs and non-weebs alike. Even Disney, with their CGI movies such as Frozen and Rapunzel, seem to in their turn even lend a bit from anime-style. And from what I see are wildly succesful in Japan (Frozen at least).
spoilerI strongly believe that Japanese don't tend to think in 'anime' and non-anime anyway since even Spongebabbu is anime to them, simply because 'anime' is their word for animation in general. Meanwhile in the English world weebs have hijacked the word to act all elitist about what is 'anime' and what not (see the recent Porter Robinson's 'Shelter' music video scandal on /r/anime), but I digress.
Overall I've also noticed in the past years that Chinese and Korean artists really have their own distinct styles which in turn influence people from different all over the world (they definitely have mine and I think I even start to like korean artists more than a lot of typical moe Japanese art),etc.
I think it's quite amazing to see the whole thing in movement and where it will be going. I often don't really realize it at a given moment and might even think things are stale (same with modern day music) but when I stop and take a look back a decade or so I realize how much things have changed. (This is just some rambling based on personal observation so don't pin me down on it)
