I don't know what's up with the image but has the artist added veins to it? Kind of makes it look gross.

INB4 3D-pig disgusting
Oh I see what you mean. I had to view the larger version to see them.
Guessing this artist wanted to make it look a little real...or has a vein fetish.
Also the "clothes" she's wearing looks tight around her breast and such so that may be the artist reason.
Eh...
This artist always does that. It grossed me out as well at first but then I also started to find it fascinating. Like, I never really thought about veins in anime art before nor have I seen it again by any other artist.

Given that, I think the artist does do his niche quite well. Although little unique touches like this do tend to inherently look a bit over the top / fetishized regardless due to the stylized nature of the anime aesthetic.
it doesnt rly work like that in reality as far as im concerned (the veins having this strong opacity on random areas, especially w a dark skin tone like this), but art has surpassed this matter many decades ago.
if he wants to do it, he will, because he can, its the work he constructs and it has his unique intentions on it. its bound to cause varied reactions, like u can see here on the comments. but what picture doesnt cause varied reactions? i think the most regular and equal the responses to a work are, the more boring and poor the work is, generally speaking... if it causes difference and discussion, something shook people, reached them, made them conscious of something they werent before, and i think its a great thing in itself.
indeed since anime is simplified everything u try tweaking a little causes some weirdness. i guess we are just overly saturated with what is considered "real anime". time to widen our horizons was due ages ago, i wish people would snap out of it soon and be a little less close minded at least. its not like "traditional anime style" will disappear...
No, it kinda gets like this in real life when the size is that huge.
It's just that you won't see much K cup + real life.

I couldn't really find a better way to word it so I went with 'THE anime aesthetic but overall I agree with you. What is 'traditional anime style' anyway? The first mangaka were heavily influenced by Disney for example. The medium is constantly evolving and I see a lot of overlap between 'western' and 'eastern' lately.
