What I find odd is that, as far as I'm aware, stuff like tapestries and dakimakura áre allowed to be uncensored so it seems to be purely for printed media and television/dvds etc.

Somehow that also (sadly) seems to be extended to data on the world wide web so that even us non-Japanese people have to suffer from their backwards obscenity laws even on internationally aiming sites like Pixiv.

It's only been bothering me more recently now that 'Western' publishers such as Fakku, Mangagamer and (to a lesser extend) Sekai Project are actually bringing over uncensored releases of big name titles which give a glimpse of what 'could be' in an ideal world without obtrusive censorship.
