Er, do bright pink and neon blue count as "gothic"?
It should be "lolita dress". "Gothic lolita" is merely a subcategory of that. I tried using that as a tag once, and noticed it didn't exist, so I didn't bother. (Though usually stuff like this isn't mistagged as such, and the other types of lolita dress aren't even accounted for.)
Gothic is the style of clothing correct? And if can still remember it. The style is usually categorized by darker shades of colors, such as red and the mix of white and black.

Pink and Sky blue looks nice too ^^
Gothic is the color, not the style. Gothic is usually black or mostly black (usually only black and white in this case). I personally prefer the lighter, more fun colors. Gothic lolita is fine, but generally too emo for my taste.

You mean gothic lolita in general or the image we're talking about?

Gothic lolita in general. This image has nothing to do with gothic lolita. It's pretty neat, I really like it.
reminds me of picture day at school

Maybe a "lolita fashion" tag?
Hm, what do you guys think, a "lolita dress" or "lolita fasion" tag? Either is fine with me.
After reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_Lolita I think we should just stick to gothic_lolita. Keep it simple folks.
You might want to take a look at this page then, although the page you link to proves my point anyway:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita_fashion

I'm not saying we need to get too detailed, but tagging this image as "gothic lolita" is incorrect, plain and simple. I don't see what's so complicated with using the general "lolita_fashion" tag and the most popular subset of that which is "gothic_lolita". Two tags. Sounds pretty simple to me.
The problem stems from the fact most people don't distinguish stuff like this, because they're lazy or simply don't know any better or whatever. So people will still tag these images as gothloli even if you want them to use lolifashion instead, meaning someone will have to waste time going through and changing the incorrect tags.
That's the case with any tag change. It's generally not an issue, since the person that gets to fix the tags is normally the same person that wants the change...

Bingo.

And, lol. All I do here is change incorrect tags and add in correct ones.
Does anyone else have objections to changing gothic_lolita to lolita_fashion? Doesn't really bother me either way now.

As changing 100 tags will be a pain, we could do a mass tag edit for you?
We shouldn't replace the gothic_lolita tag outright; search engines don't understand tag aliases. (Google for "gothic lolita touhou".) I'd sooner add an implication.

Who said anything about replacing the gothic_lolita tags?
So you want to use both? I would have liked to consolidate those tags, but it is your call.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about: school swimsuits are swimsuits, but not all swimsuits are school swimsuits.

I love lolita fashion, and I want to be able to search for it. Problem is, only a portion of these images are tagged, since only the subcategory "gothic lolita" is recognized. I've already gone through and added tags to all of the existing gothic lolita images, and am in the process of tagging any other lolita fashion images I find.

So basically, if it's not gothic lolita, I tag it "lolita fashion". If it's gothic lolita, I use both the "lolita fashion" and the "gothic lolita" tag. Just like how "school swimsuit" tagged images always have the "swimsuits" tag. If there is a way to make this automatic, that would make things even easier.
I'm happy for you to do that.

We do have some mass edit tools, but they won't help in this situation.
It's pretty fast to use tag scripts, even if you don't have access to mass tag. Just set &limit=100 on a search.
Thanks for adding all those tags bunnygirl!
