Well, no wonder I hardly hear news when Liz to Aoi Tori released at theater (aka they probably flopping). Since the very beginning they make new design, I feel something amiss. And most people likely gize zero fuck about side character Nozomi x Mizore. Kumiko still win the day.

The comparison hurts: the new style has almost no shadows or visible relief. Where are the shadows? Where are the light effects? And if Nozomi, Natsuki and Yūko are recognizable, WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU, MIZORE??! This one look NOTHING like the Mizore we know from the anime (starting with her eyes)!

To be more general: this new chara-design is just AWFUL! And I’m as disappointed as KyoAni was known to have among the most beautiful chara-designs, especially for “just” TV animes. And Hibike! Euphonium was their anime with the most of the most beautiful designs so far, since Air: each image of each episode provided us an eyegasm, not telling for the concert scenes! And they give now that??? o__O Are they kidding us?!!

I really liked the side characters in Hibike Euphonium, Nozomi being my favorite character. I just don't understand why they would change the art style for this one. Its such a massive disappointment for me. All the art I have seen for it I don't really like.

I will end up still watching it, because of the characters (and it might look better animated), but still sad to see this.

Kumiko and Reina are great characters also, and I'm looking forward to their movie.

Edit: I watched the trailer for it on MAL and it does look better animated, still not as good as the style from the main season (obviously)

I would not hit those.

Pretty sure there are many news of this film, if you follow the film twitter and website as well as Kyoani's youtube channel.

All Hibikes fan in Japan went to see Liz to Aoi Tori and they loved it. The story is great (but not for everyone taste). Kyoani managed to make people love Nozomi and Mizore. Currently, they are quite popular. You can see that they got a ton of fan art on Pixiv.

New design is made to suit the storytelling of the film. It focuses on simple and clean design. They want it to look different than the TV series and they look great when animated. Many fans actually consider it to be great alternative to TV design.

I made this post because I felt that some people unfairly judged this film.

Problem is, they still look ugly.
And sure, let's say that's fine, but then don't feature them in swimsuits. Because this is pure horror and vomit inducing.

I didn’t say anything about the story itself: my personal rant is all about the chara-design, nothing else.

As a yuriist, I liked the Nozomi × Mizore couple since I met them in the second season of the anime (at the point I want to know they will stay together and will be happy in their lives; because they were too cute). And I was glad to know there would be a movie focused on their relationship, but why they didn’t keep the original chara-design, their visual identity???

They should have use this new design from the start, or not at all.

Looks fine to me. It's just a personal preference.

I'm not sure what part looks good, the no-shade "omnilight" bodies, the lack of any curves, or the atypically long faces.
