I'd imagine it's so people like me with 16:10 monitors can play the game windowed without it going over the taskbar. I never play eroge fullscreen unless it's a forced option, so this resolution is pretty much perfect. Also, thank god studios are finally starting to migrate away from 4:3. Most still use 4:3 but it's getting there, slowly but surely.
