Shonen isn't the same. The word is spelled しょうねん. Note the u there. It's the same as all those people that spell bouzu without the u, amongst many other words.

Yeah, I know how the word is spelled. But in occidental markets, such difference is insignificant and I don't think people will be worried if you missed the U in the word.
