about 16 years agoIf child images would show up on the main post page instead of just when doing a tag search, I think that would be an improvement.
I guess I'll just remove the parent for now and re-add it in a few days (or else the image won't be found as something new very easily).
I think petopeto/admin2 should think about changing how that works to make it easier to see new child posts. Added it to bug tracker: http://imouto.org/bugs/showreport.php?bugid=22

almost 16 years agoJust to clear it up. From what I have seen so far, the Parent/Child guidelines are something like the following:
Better quality scan = Parent
Denoised scan = Parent
Removed text and other junk = Parent
Uncensored a censored scan = Parent
Uncensored a scan which is not censored = Child
Anything else that should be added to that list? In particular, anything else that is automatically made a Child?

almost 16 years agoDenoised scan = Parent (Flag child as duplicate)
Removed text and other junk = Parent (Leave original as child)
Uncensored a censored scan = Parent (Or child)
Uncensored a scan which is not censored = Child (I don't understand this one)
Photoshopped scan (Removed clothes etc) = Child
Watermarked/signed scan = Child & flag as duplicate

almost 16 years agoIn comparison to "Uncensored a censored scan" which is the removal of a black bar, white bar, blurring or some such that makes it obvious it was censored and something that marred the image.

almost 16 years agoThe general guideline for which post should be parented is: which post is more suited for viewing (in a web browser); which one should the site prefer to point people at? For example, if we ever implement a recommendations system (which I've tried a few times), it'll only parent posts. If an image has been decensored, is it a good enough job to replace the original in the index? (Many aren't, but some are, and sometimes a mediocre decensor job can be less obnoxious than an really bad censor job.)
That guideline also helps decide which to parent when dealing with more complicated cases, like when you have combinations of varying color adjustments, dimensions, file sizes, crops, etc.
In general, mark a post as duplicate if you think it should be deleted. That means you should only duplicate a post that has a filtered version if you actually think the filtered version is good enough that nobody will want the original to try again later. (Filtering is tricky; combined with the fact that most images that are posted on image boards without filtering also have other things wrong with them making the filtering even harder, there's often not that level of confidence.)
