There is some sort of effect (I don't know the name) this artist is using that is irritating my eyes when I view the image for a closer look. My eyes also have this problem when I try to use the 3d effect on the Nintendo 3DS (which I don't use because of the irritation). It's similar.

chromatic aberration is what you're looking for and a good amount of artists don't know how much is enough.
