Unless realism is the intention, artists have that leeway. They can go from abstract to photo-realism. Usually they do it for effect or to appeal to a fetish. It's getting results as shown by the vote count.

People already experience logic and realism, they know what it is. Art is a fantasy escape
as in whatever they want Richelieu to show off.

That doesn't mean they can get by without any proficiency in anatomy and perspective. You have to know the rules first in order to bend them.
