Surprise, That's a single-action 1911 handgun. It won't fire unless a round is chambered and cocked. It also won't eject a spent round as drawn.

I always suspected most artists just draw a gun as a prop, and don't think to go into those details unless they themselves have experience with them, which is not likely in Japan.
