I agree, but auto contrast is simple edit everyonecan do.
I think other edits (such as adjust RGB balance, descreening, erase crease, reduse jpeg artifacts, e.t.c.) are not encouraged.

We don't encourage bad editing. Some scanning failures needed to be tackled during the scanning process.

that's true.
I always do best, and if they have a problem even if slightly, I'll rescan immediately.
if you edit my scans, I always encourage it =D
(maybe the most problem is much scans are done by who never got criticism.)
