Yeah, you should be "grateful" that those aren't Win XP!
Somewhere I read that many military and intelligence uses XP because the specialized software they use only works there. I read that a few years ago tho, can't tell if true anymore.

well, xp was decent. The real problem was Windows Vista, very slow, and quite over the top at the time.
I used Vista for 2 yrs, never had any problems, guess i was lucky :)

Had friends that really had a hard time with em.
With a dual-core CPU and mini 4 GiB of RAM, Vista was as fast as Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 on the same hardware. I can say it: my current PC (11 yo) had Vista preinstalled, and I have installed W7, 8, 8.1 and every W10 until 1909 on it afterwards. Only W10 was (and is) slow to boot and open my user session.

Has the boot HDD switched to an SSD? This may boost the boot speed.

by the time 7 came out vista had a ship of thesius thing going on. your w10 problem a likely issue is going to be due to w10 not having proper drivers for the old hardware, so its pausing until it fails and then uses a legacy geneic driver. i ended up binning an mobo due to this.
i could install 7 and upgrade to 10, but couldnt install 10 directly.

No, but I guess it should, indeed.

No driver-related problems in the Device Manager since I have upgraded my ex-Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, exactly 5 years ago (it was done the 1st August 2015). I just don’t have the green light to upgrade to version 2004, but all the previous versions of W10 were installed (by upgrading with the ISO file downloaded on the MS website and executed in the File Explorer) without any problem.

Maybe a fresh install could fix that, but Windows being my secondary OS on this PC, and not wanting to reinstall all my main softwares and reset them to my liking, as long as it boot and works fine, I don’t plan to do that.
I'm using Windows 10 for 2 years now. In that time i've had to reinstall them twice due to various reasons from windows forced updates. Plus one day they stopped opening all picture files out of the blue, the next day it was all ok... And many such small issues over time.

I still have Windows 7 on my secondary PC installed since 2012, NEVER had an issue.

Win10 in general was step back in reliability for MS. Wish i could go full linux, I dual-boot Linux Mint without issues on that secondary PC too.
