I don't see any reason why mecha and girls can't mix. That's not to say that it's an instant win, but I fully believe that it can work. For instance, I'm sure that it'd be possible for Sunrise to come up with a gundam show where all the pilots are girls and have it be absolutely fantastic. Is it going to happen? Almost certainly not. But it _could_ happen.

Everyone has different tastes and frequently what's cool and what's not is entirely subjective. I agree that in most cases, mecha is a rather male-centric genre, but that doesn't mean that you can't have good mecha with girls. It just means that it's rarer than good mecha with guys.
