The complete anthology of official Strawberry Panic! scans, from Dengeki G's magazine short stories/novellettes (from November 2003 to September 2005).
Properties:
=+= Non-hentai
=+= Uncut
=+= 400dpi
=+= Ultra-compressed lossless PNG's (~1/5 size of BMPs) >>> May be decompressed into BMPs for easy working.
=+= Filtered for descreening
=+= May be further "cleaned" -- but that's up to you.
Description:
\o/ These scans are complete page scans of the Strawberry Panic! sections from Dengeki G's Magazines 2003 September to 2005 September (or August).
\o/ It cost a *lot* to get all the Dengeki G's magazines. There was much pain involved in debinding the pages. There was much pain in scanning and processing them as well.
\o/ The scanner is an avid (as opposed to rabid) fan of the original artist.
\o/ This pack contains the pictures from the previous scan pack. (i.e.: No need to download the other one if you are downloading this one)
\o/ This pack does not contain pictures from outside the boundaries of [Drawn by M.Chitose] and [from Dengeki G's magazines 2003/09 to 2005/09].
\o/ That is, it does not contain pictures from the new novels, from the anime, from the PS2 game, or from the manga's. These may be readily available to those who Google.
\o/ As a matter of fact, the artist in this pack (the original artist and designer of the characters) stopped working on the Strawberry Panic! franchise after September 2005. So all other art are by other artists.
Important Notes **IMPORTANT if you want to save bandwidth**:
\o/ These scans are geared toward fans of the series, wallpaper makers, etc. It is not merely a "CG pack" and should not be treated as one. At the resolution and size, it would be unweildy as a CG pack.
\o/ Some pictures span two pages, and in the case of those, I have deliberately scanned to the very edge of the pages to allow close cropping and joining.
\o/ Because of the large size of this collection, I recommend looking at the thumbnails catalogue sheets prior to download, to choose the pictures you want.
\o/ This pack, for completeness's sake, contains all pages in all Strawberry Panic! sections, and includes character data, chibi manga, and even fan art. The pages with original art (proper art by the artist) have been marked with a [o] tag to allow easy identification for selective downloading.
\o/ Filenames format: YYYYMM-XX, where YYYYMM is the issue of Dengeki G's Magazine where the pages are from. The pictures are sorted into folders according to the issues as well.
===About Strawberry Panic!===
(a history of key points with direct relevance to these scans)
Strawberry Panic! was planned to fill the hole in the serialised short stories section of Dengeki G's Magazine after the end of Sister Princess. The concept was "lily" (Yuri) which pairs up the female protaganists, riding on the boom caused by Maria-sama ga Miteru. It is in a completely different style to the other two dominant serialised short stories in the magazines, Futakoi and Sister Princess.
The school integrates Junior High and High School, so 1-3rd graders = Junior High, 4-6th graders = High School.
Prior to the actual start of the series, the artist worked on two featured art pieces in the 2003 September and October G's magazines. The October issue announced the birth of this new series after the end of Sister Princess.
November 2003
Miator school introduced. Nagisa, Chiyo, Shizuma, and Tamao are introduced. The plan of the game is outlined. Three girl's school: Miator, Spica and Lu-lim (sometimes Le-lim). 3 main characters who are the younger sister of the readers (elder brother) enters each school and become the protaganists. Coupling chances of younger sister to a upperclassman, a classmate, or a lower grade student. Playing the role of the elder brother of these three sisters, the reader gives advice to the younger sisters who are (understandably) bewildered by the school life. Thus, readers have the ability to influence the coupling formations. (Clarification: this means that Nagisa, Hikari and Kizuna started off as sisters)
December 2003
Spica school introduced, along with Hikari, Amane, Tsubomi and Yaya. Lu-lim school also introduced, with Kizuna, Chikaru, Kagome and Remon.
January 2004
Overview illustrations of the events in three schools, plus a plan of the entire campus (corner p.133). Game starts.
March 2004
Game results from the first round of voting. Votes were less than 2000 in number. Therefore, the editorial department lifts the restrictions on only coupling within the same school, and the restriction of only allowing the "main characters" to couple. This results in a total of 64 (4x4x4) kinds of coupling possible. Four events planned: Easter, Athletic Carnival, Cultural Festival, Christmas Bazaar. "Etoile" title was born, used to crown the best couple voted first by the readers in each of the 4 events. These events were carried out by the three schools in cooperation. The plan of the schools became such that the three schools are joined in a triangle, with the dormitories taking up the center. The reader's position as elder brother is cancelled, and the game becomes a simple popularity vote for coupling. Due to the position of Elder Brother being scrapped, Nagisa, Hikari and Kizuna ceased to be sisters. Family names were added later to clarify this.
May 2004
Game results from the second round of voting (Etoile: Easter). Number of votes did not increase. The couple in the first place had 150 votes, and there were various couples at the bottom end with zero votes. Thus, a new rule called "spell" was introduced to artificially inflate the number of votes.
July 2004
Game results from the third round of voting (Etoile: Athletic Festival). Number of votes seen to have increased sharply, probably due to the new voting mechanisms. Due to concerns that there is not enough time between Athletic Festival (an early summer event) and Cultural Festival (an autumn event), "Dormitory (Panic) Part" of the serial was started as a way to connect the events. This involves taking one person of the original trio of main heroines, and performing coupling for them against the other 11 girls in various situations. Therefore, Etoile voting was announced to take place every month (as opposed to every two months). The deadline for voting was shifted to become the middle of every month, and online voting was introduced.
August 2004
Game results from the fourth round of voting (Dormitory: Medical Checkup). Due to the timespan allowed for voting changing to one month, voting numbers fall to around 1000.
September 2004
Game results from the fifth round of voting (Dormitory: Midnight Party). The Etoile section voting is shifted to be online-only, whilst G's magazine mail voting becomes dormitory section voting only.
October 2004
Game results from the sixth round of voting (Dormitory: Pool Battle).
November 2004
Game results from the seventh round of voting (Dormitory: Camp School). The story exceeds the boundaries of the school (and continually does so from here on), and Nagisa, Hikari and Kizuna are clearly distinguished as not being siblings. Online voting for the Etoile of Cultural Festival began.
December 2004
Game results from the eighth round of voting (Dormitory: Charity Maids).
January 2005
Game results from the ninth round of voting (Dormitory: Club Exchange Week). Dormitory section ends. Online voting starts for Christmas Bazaar Etoile.
February 2005
Etoile results announced. Online votes also end.
March 2005
Strawberry Panic! was not published in the magazine for this month.
April 2005
Announcement: Start of "Budding" novel. Compiled novels planned.
May 2005
The novel serial starts in the magazine, with the story continuation dubbed "supplementary biography" (of the characters). 5 volumes of this are planned.
June 2005
It is announced that "Renka" will do the illustrations in the compiled novels version (this was not to be, and in the end both manga and novel versions would be illustrated by Takumi Namuchi)
September 2005
The novel serialisation ends. M.Chitose terminates illustration career with Strawberry Panic!
==Background==
(Please note these background notes may differ from the happenings of the anime. They are applicable only to the Dengeki G's Magazine stories/games.)
St. Miator was founded on a monastery, and is the oldest of the Astraea schools. It is generally seen as the school for "brides", further reinforced by the extracurricular classes of tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and Japanese dancing. Many students are engaged before graduation.
School rules include #7: Do not show your teeth when laughing at a public place, and #9: Bowing should be done with a 30 degree bend from the waist.
St. Spica was founded after St. Miator, and it advances the independence of women who play a role in improving society. Along with traditional academic studies, focus is also on sports such as swimming and horse riding. It constantly ranks number 1 in those activities.
School rules include #13: Relations outside of campus must first have the approval of the school and guardians, and #26: Underwear and gloves must be white: all other colours are prohibited.
St. Lu-lim is the newest of the thee schools and is known for its free school spirit. Thus, the relationships between the grades in this school are very flexible. Club activities are popular, and clubs are formed and broken by students all the time.
School rules include #5: Always wear the uniform of the school properly when going out, and #8: A senior must always protect a lower grade student, teaching and leading her.
Astraea is the name of the dormitory located in the middle of the three-schools' triangle. This building was built when St. Miator was founded. Though originally planned for students whose homes are far away, it has also come to house the children of distinguished families who are able to experience group life in its embraces. "Astraea" is a Greek Goddess frequently associated with "virgin" -- in myths, she was transformed into the constellation Virgo.
Dormitory rule #21: Lights out by 10:00pm, and further activities forbidden.
Etoile: "Star" in French, a title bestowed on the best couple chosen from all three schools. It is a high honour and a term of veneration. The implementation of the etoile system differs from the magazine game to the novels to the manga, and the anime. In the magazine versions, the Etoile pair is voted upon by the readers via paper (and later via online system only), for special events.
