Today was a good day. My monitor and I have been graced with the presence of glorious art of legendary Kazuya Kuroda. What a treat! Enjoy!
original scan image was saved with 100 jpeg "quality" setting, but, alas, used subsampling. for this kind of imagery this should not be used by any means.
What exactly was fixed? Looks the same along with the JPG artifacts
The bottom half's colour matches better I think. Or at least the blue scarf does. But yes it's also a png which inherited the artifacting.

crease in the middle.

lower half of deep violet scarf i think was overglowed by scanner. i think better leave darker shade to prevent me from damaging more than it is neede. imo better keep edits to minimum.
Completely missed that crease.

If you are repairing images, please try to fix other obvious flaws too. Some filtering on the JPG artifacts would help to repair this image. Seeing you are using GIMP I highly recommend using https://gmic.eu/ for this.

where? jpeg artifacts? that's an endless task, and i don't want to sink hours to make image look 5% better. i use same artifacts to cover holes, lol. the only way to remove them is to call Mr. Kuroda and send us his tiffs. i really hope he still has them. if you find some obvious mistakes (missed spots), call me and i repair them, except damage done by jpeg subsampling. if you want to see what i've done to image, drop two black or white layers on top of image and put them in Overlay mode, and unnamed horrors of Olde Ones from unheard aeons will be shewed to your retina...
>g'mic
i heard about that, but all can see are some [i]filters[/]. at what point an image becomes overfiltered? what if filter will alter colours or line in some place and i miss it? i must see results of that bloatware first. at least doing manually i can control or remove anything i've done. i will test it after i'm done with Kuroda's glorious works here. original image was posted 13 years ago, maybe we should start from the source and rescan it.
>I'm a mac user and all I see is a black image when previewing it or when opening it in Chrome. I can see it if I open it in GIMP.
c'mon...
1) Come on, it doesn't take hours to fix JPG artefacts. G'Mic has some really good filters that will help you fix them. I've also heard of good things from using waifu2x (Filtering, not scaling)
2) It's difficult to get it right, but use some common sense, and see if you can find the image elsewhere online to compare after filtering the image. There are plenty of other images on this site which have been filtered, and I think the advice in the forum is still relevant.
3) I only just noticed you had uploaded the newer version, and that works fine.
1>no. i must see results. posts results, and i will consider these methods.
2>so for 13 years nobody posted another scan. seems strange for such quality artworks
3>i was referring to "mac user", kek. >using macs in 2021
if anything i prefer painting to arguing.
1) There are plenty of examples in the index. Anything that is scanned is likely to have been through some form of filtering to reduce/eliminate JPG artifacting. I'll see if I can dig-up the guide in the forum (Suspect it's a little out of date)
2) Yes it's strange, but think about how many other sites are similar to yande.re. Who else bothered to collect high-res/high-quality scans back when most images were physical scans? We were pretty unique then, and now.
3) It just works 👍
