Yeah I know that feeling, I was really liking a certain artist on PixiV for some time... until he started making eplicit NSFW stuff >.<
I know people need to eat and drawing at the end of the day can be a job like any other, but still it kinda feels like prostitution when you make NSFW artworks because they attract more donations :|

It's because you can't "do" much with an image like this, except admire it for a few seconds or minutes and then move on and never see it again, unless you decide to use it as a mobile or desktop wallpaper, or make/buy a print/tapestry of it and hang on your bedroom wall, if it's a really beautiful picture of a character you really like. But most people will just admire it for a few seconds/minutes and then move on and never see it again. People usually aren't inclined to pay for something they are used to/can see for free on the internet; and, as I said, you can't "do" much with an image like this.

But there ARE a few very good, incredible artists, that make a living with just beautiful, safe pictures, but just a few indeed, like Hiten, En Morikura, よむ (Yomu), マナカッコワライ (Manakakkowarai), and WLOP, just to name a few. But they have to be VERY good indeed to make a living with just beautiful, SFW pictures; but it's easier if they are Japanese and make manga, like よむ (Yomu). But of course there are also non-Japanese magakas or comic book artists that make a living with just SFW works too.
