With a bit of leaps and jumps I can speculate on why would someone bother drawing girls with tails. And then, specifically, this thickness and length of a tail. Separately, I think of a question why would a tail be involved in a bit of symbolism. A heart shape here.

Such tails displayed on suggestive characters would appeal to certain instincts. Those instincts, as I strongly suppose, would be tempered into oblivion if by bending the tail into such sharp angle you as an artist would declare that the tail is of some implied nature that allows such angles. Was it a pre-bent clip-on accessory? Is it a proper appendage but broken for such shape? Is the tail just a rigid moment of a chaotic mass, that doesn't need to bend in its normal state accortding to some inner workings present in cat tails with all those spine columns, prehensility, wavy fluidity of movement.

Long story short, no beauty there. No matter how much topicality or novelty a heart shape of this tail could hope to achieve.
