IMHO, the sub-menu shouldn't be appearing unless someone is purposefully stalling their mouse over a link from more than a couple seconds before they click. I'd suspect that if the hover delay was increased to at least 3 seconds, it would eliminate the majority of false positives. Currently the delay seems to be set to 1 second or less, making it near-impossible to _not_ see the sub-menu.
3 seconds is too much of an annoyance for those who want to expand the menu.
