I wanted to take a moment to address some concerns and offer some transparency. My passion for eroge, especially the vanilla genre, has driven me to be deeply invested in our community. I assure you, I'm far from being indifferent to the conversations and sentiments expressed here over the years.
Just to clarify, merely displaying ads doesn't generate revenue; ads need to lead to conversions, meaning people must be interested enough in the advertised service to follow through and make a purchase.
Some of you have suggested setting up a Patreon or similar platforms as a way to financially support the site without ads. While the idea is admirable, it's a risky move: Yande.re hosts a variety of content, some of which is quite controversial. It would only take one report from a disgruntled user to get us banned from such platforms. Plus, we have to consider whether we're willing to remove all extreme and loli content from the site to comply with those platforms' policies—a significant change that might not align with what our community wants.
The focus on ads might seem like the central issue, but in actuality, the primary concern is the aging technology underpinning the site. As technology evolves, our codebase risks becoming obsolete, which poses significant security and maintenance challenges. To stay current, we'd need to overhaul our code and update dependencies.
One of the immediate needs is to improve account creation and management. For those who may not know, yande.re is hosted by Anime-Sharing, which recently launched its second version, featuring OAUTH sign-in. Integrating yande.re with Anime-Sharing's OAUTH could streamline our account system, but this is a goal we can only aim for in the future.
What I'm gathering from the community is a desire for SFW ads to match the SFW artwork on the site. Do I have that right?
