about 14 years agoA game with a stupid / shitty / pointless / NULL story but good gameplay IS good, no matter how much the storyline scrubs complain.
A game with an awesome story but horrible / unplayable / bugged gameplay will ALWAYS be a bad game. Just look at failures like Killer 7, that SaGa game for PS2 (forgot its full name), the most recent Mortal Kombat games (special attention to MK vs DC) and etc.
syaoran: THAT's why I consider VNs as... something else. Like one of those "interactive" books for kids, except you see lolis, MILFs and pr0n instead of bears, butterflies and all that.

about 14 years agoDoesn't change the fact that a VG bases its strength because of its gameplay. Yes, even RPGs which are supposedly strongly story-based. Or you'll tell me the Dragon Warrior games (the most important RPG series in Japan) are recognized by their (really simple and most of the time ignorable) storylines rather than their difficult, long gameplay?

about 14 years agoYou're right about the traditional view of games, but there are someone who got tired of that type of games, and noticed "reading" is one of the most exciting games mankind created. "reading" isn't a game in your definition. but for me, it's a great game matches to playing sports.
PS: The RPGs you mentioned don't have stories worth to read ∀ﾟ)

about 14 years agoAnd yes, I know, DW games' storylines are far from being awesome or complicated, but the games by themselves are good because they take a bit to finish, a lot of subquests, the most insane difficult level in a JRPG and etc.

about 14 years agoIf you have never played an Visual Novel I truly recommend you to actually go and test and play one. I would example recommend you try Umineko, and you can do that even for free as Episode 1 is completely free to download. You can find it here http://witch-hunt.com/stage0.html and the rest of the translated chapters if you want.
If Mystery is not your type of plot you can find something else. There is a ton.
