why are ender's stitched images always so big, because of alpha channel?

Well isn't each individual scan fairly large? I'm guessing he just want to preserve the quality. It's better that way anyway. If somebody wants it to be smaller, they can easily resize it for themselves.

No, if he neither keeps the alpha channel nor changes it to 16bit/ch, it will be at least less than 50MB (5x10).

The texture of the pillow cover contributes to a large portion of the file size too. A quick run with neatimage reduces it to about 20MB.

If the alpha channel is all white then it shouldn't take up more than 100kb no?
