china dress is not chinese clothes in narrow sense. and it's only one kind of chinese clothes in very broad sense -- it's just used much more often in anime/manga than any other style.
bakaneko said: Because people complain when tagged as Japanese_clothes
there are some critical differences between chinese clothes and japanese clothes(though japanese clothes are diverted from older styles of chinese clothing). those are, furisode(swinging sleeves) are square, back-stretching collar and evidently wide girdle as in japanese clothes(styles). and some other minor ones.
for this perticular female dress, it seems more like a blend of both chinese and japanese clothing to me, but to be one nor another. however the male's cloth is definitely chinese.

actually no this tag is not bad, as cate:chinese clothes is not so important. but if exist also not bad

this work alone seems much like japanese style. paper strips on sasa (small bamboo) obviously japanese tanabata there is. however that doesn't mean tag japanese clothes is appropriate. i also think the clothes on heroine intermingles japanese and chinese style

Thus I've suggested multiple times to rename "japanese_clothes" to a more generic "asian_clothes" or perhaps "traditional_clothes" to allow correct tagging.

what the hell do you mean chinese clothes aren't important?! chinese clothing is the origin of japanese clothing, idiot.
also, the female clothing to me looks like a mixture of both chinese and japanese clothing the fact that there is both a top and an overal to the outfit and also the design makes it look chinese the ribbon the clothing is held together by looks like one on a kimono and the sleeves look more triangular-like that of a kimono the male's clothing is obviously chinese because of it's chinese style and patterns

may I have your attention to what I posted. I'd wrote that is the cate:chinese clothes "is" not impartant cause there're not so many works relative to chinese clothes except chinadress. on the one hand I think I'd said specifically I agreed with making a tag such as this. and on the other hand the necessity is a consideration what is actual. I'd never said chinese clothes theirselves are not important

i dont see the point renaming "japanese_clothes". it's already broad enough, making it into "asian_clothes" further garbles the various styles of somewhat different origins. and "traditional_clothes" makes even less sense. it virtually includes everything that's not modernly designed/originated. personally i'm alright without "chinese_clothes" tag on site, as long as "japanese_clothes" is not arbitrarily or unconcernedly applied to clothings that are very clearly chinese, though i believe most of the time ppl tag with care.
however if the future trend does bring us an increasing number of pics with chinese clothing, i suppose making such tag with simple explaination(of how to differentiate whether one is chinese or japanese) would be grateful.
though most Japanese clothes get tagged under more specific tags - mikoyukatakimono - this tag is more used for clothes that don't fit there, which is not a huge number - a quick check shows that there are more of the top 3 than of japanese_clothes on the site, and there's not much double-tagging. Also, something like chinadress shouldn't be double-tagged.
These two people are Chinese but the characters are reformed in Japanese and Korean stories. So its hard to say whether its chinese clothes or japanese clothes (lie on the artists) ^ ^ However traditional(before 1644) Chinese clothes and Japanese clothes do have a lot in common ,diffent with the tagged "chinadess" ,which appeared after the year 1644 of the Manchus conquest and laterly it was developed in 20th century. Maybe tag "Chinese_clothes" or "traditional_Chinese_clothes" will be fine. Sorry for discussing in comments. > <
