I can't tell for sure because of her hair, but I think that what you guys think is backwards is actually supposed to be the right hand, not the left hand. If you look at the other hand it also looks backwards. I think the artist just messed up a bit on his proportions and it looks a bit awkward and wrong.

I thot that at 1st too but i don't think that the problem is mixed up hands - it seems more like the hands are beginning from the same point of her body(proportion problems like you said probably) so right or left hand wouldn't make any difference to the weirdness of this image XD But still she is freakin agile to be able to do the 90 degree thing O.o
