it's a quote... 「 and 」 are japanese quote marks, you know, the japanese version of these " " 'omedetougozaimasu.' is something that this character says in an episode of bakemonogatari... while making the face that you see in this vector :)

I for one (maybe others too) prefer when I download a pool to have the fixed images. Maybe there needs to be an option to download pool original vs. fixed? i don't know if that's possible though - outside of making a new pool.
Sorry, not intended as a slur on your work. Just something that I had meant to mention before.
fireattack said: I'm start to agree with you since I find that someone often likes to add something more than just fixing the gap..(color adjust, detext, cropping..)
I had a conversation on IRC. Some of the mods are already checking 'fixed' images. If it's a poor fix, or slightly dubious, then it becomes the child scan. A good fix will replace the unfixed scan.
Since authorities adopt it (= the way dropping the 2nd vowel when 2 vowels sequenced) and write it on offices and stations all over the country, anyone has no chance to rectify it in Japan (that must need tremendous money).
It's not really up to Japan: romanization isn't for Japanese, it's for everyone else. Sort of analogously, English speakers don't decide how English words are written in katakana.
petopeto said: Very few people except linguists and Japanese still use macrons in romanization. It's unnecessary, and it's a pain (most people can't even enter them on their keyboard).
Not to mention that most people have no clue at all how to pronounce all those characters they never see anywhere else. A person may have a decent chance of guessing how to pronounce onii if they have some understanding of Japanese vowel sounds, but throw onī at them and they'll have no clue at all. ( ̄へ ̄)
Lengthy comment that's probably tl;drIt's sorta like looking at the pronunciation stuff in Wikipedia entries, unless you're a linguist they might as well be an alien language. Like this little tidbit I ran across the other day: "middle name is pronounced /dʒəˈniːs/, with the accent on the second syllable (and not the more common pronunciation /ˈdʒænɪs/". I understand it's usefulness in an encyclopedia, but I'm betting less than 1% of people viewing pages can make use of that info. Of course you can create an entirely new problem if you decide to drop both the macrons and the extra vowels. Like Viz's former "Shojo Beat" magazine. Shojo is an entirely different word than shōjo/shoujo.... \(--)/ Then again, not like Viz has ever been terribly good at accuracy.
