Japanese surely uses Chinese zodiac, there are even some anime based on it. Such as Fruits Basket and even the older Juuni Senshi Bakuretsu Eto Ranger. But they don't use Chinese lunar calendar, the only calendar in Japan is the Gregorian calendar, so they have only one New Year on January 1st, rather than Chinese have two new years.

I have to state it or else the voice of my korean friend will forever scream in my ears. It's not the "Chinese New Year" it's the "Lunar New Year".
