oh dear, such a revealing image ^^. That's why I like Nagomiko, her style resembles Mitsumi Misato's artworks too, and personally those that is my favorite stlye.
for me this is what I've would done. Smudge tool. (at first)
I think if you duplicate the layer a few times like b/t 2-3 times, the transparency should level out and create a good 100% opaque background, then you can smudge it then without too much worries.
- Now i'm tempted to try it now >.< (there goes a few days work with my slow pace)
Wasn't sure if I should snip out the calendar part (why do they even sell things as "calendars"--nobody cares about the calendar part), so I left it as-is.
