Faults: scanning artifacts
Scanners digitize images by sampling many vertical sections of the image on the scan bed. Images where the vertical lines are still visible are tagged with "scanning_artifacts".
Some artifacts can be removed with the help of NeatImage and GREYCstoration, but if your scanner constantly produces images with many scanning artifacts, you probably need to get a better one.
