There's too many reasons to list why.
Ask yourself: do you mostly use your phone portrait oriented or landscape oriented more?
depends... i use a nokia 3210... you could say i hold it like how phones are normally held... but it has a landscape oriented screen...
I've actually started using some of my monitors in portrait mode at work because of a picture cakes posted a while back. I don't know why I didn't try it earlier, because I can't work without it now. I have the same basic setup with portrait monitors on either side of my widescreen main monitor, and they're awesome for emails, documents, specs, PDFs (I can actually view a whole page at a readable zoom level now), etc. while my main screen is almost always my code editor in full screen mode that covers everything, including the taskbar.

In short, it made my multimonitor setup at work even more useful than it was previously.
Yup, it's best to be able to view browsers and work stuff (anything not media entertainment related) in a vertical orientation.
If it weren't for media entertainment stuff always being landscape oriented, I'd have all 3 of my monitors in portrait mode.

And if you were to set all of the monitors landscape, you'd have to turn your neck more to view everything.

ah i see so many game shortcut
Was more or less wondering because monitors generally don't really come that way.
Oh, most professional ips/pva monitors are able to rotate to portrait.

That's... I want one just so I have one.
oh wow!... i might need this when reading manga online... tablets are not that large enough for me... and then turning back into landscape when playing videogames...

is the rotation manually arranged?... or does it rotate mechanically?...

speaking of large screens... dragon's crown was released in the stores earlier than the intended NA release date... i'm enjoying the game with the people at home on a 46 monitor... it's like an arcade game come true... at least for me...
Does those monitors support Component and Composite?
Why would they need to?
Some game consoles use them.
I'm guessing they aren't that type of monitors?
First time I'm hearing about these "IPS/PVA".
IPS, TN and PVA panels are the most common ones with CRT monitors/TV pretty much extinct.

Chances are if you have an LCD monitor you have one of those.

TN panels have extremely bad viewing angles where the colors change a lot depending on from where you're looking at the monitor.
Viewing angles on IPS and PVA panels are barely ever noticeable but are a lot more expensive.
Professional grade monitors are usually IPS and sometimes PVA, and are aimed at professional work and imaging use, so generally don't have a need for media entertainment connections.
Sorry to interject, but I was looking around the forums here and in a few topics people mentioned that Yande.re was shutting down. Is this true? If so, is there an announcement about the site shutting down that I can read?

SHHHHHHHHHHHHH... don't say the unmentionables or you-know-who will lock the lounge just like all those threads about THAT particular topic!!!...

you-know-who is still indecisive on the matter... it's best to give him time to think until Christmas...

as for me... i'm cold and ashamed... lying broken on the floor...

Oh, oh! Sorry! I didn't realize it was an unmentionable. These lips are sealed on the matter then.

So, heh, what were we discussing then?

Just read up. You're free to bring up your own topic in this thread also.
Moniters, portraits, and landscapes. Oh my. :P
What other topics are usually discussed here?
Anything. Mostly people talking about rain...sadly.
:D I love the rain! Lucky for me, it has been plentiful as of late.
Anything meaning any topic within reason, right?

Oh I see.
So I need to search for a LCD Monitor in the near future.
Thanks you two.
i'd suggest for an LED screen. it's less heat producing than CCFL (what people would usually call an LCD. but both are LCD monitors with different back lighting technology)and the LED back-lighting gives a more vibrant display than a ccfl back-lit screen...

LED back-lit screens are usually more expensive than CCFL... but the difference on viewing convenience and power usage goes(low power input) to the LED...

i'd talk about how much i am enjoying dragon's crown... but there's another thread for in depth gaming discussion... plus logging here is reminding me how miserable i'll be by next year...

Gotcha.

Miserable next year?
i might get locked out of the lounge by next year...
Um...what about IRC?
Is it just me or is this site really the best booru? :O
Depends on what you want.
(Some Boorus have different focuses.)

When it started, that was one of its goals, or rather a better alternative to Danbooru.
