Heh...that battle was hard.kiowa said:
Yeah finished that strider battle... Quite challenging indeed. Here's what I figured out after retrying a few times:
1. Finish off the hunters first. The striders can always wait.
2. The most efficient way killing the hunters is conventional weapon fire. Although ramming one or sending its bullets back may seem smart, these are not as effective as weapon fire when you have plenty of ammo.
3. When using rockets against hunters, aim for the ground beneath them for splash damage if engaging from mid-long range since they dodge the rockets and the trail smoke prevents you from guiding properly.
Sounds good advice...but tell me... did you get that achievement in keeping all the houses alive?
I still haven't.
When the 1st set of Striders appear, I can kill one but when that happens, the other Strider speeds up and ends up destroying that 1st wooden house before I can get a chance to blow it up with that bomb.
The hunters around it makes sure you can't shoot your bomb if you don't take care of them first but it just hard in defending that house for the start of that achievement. You have to be really fast in order to save that 1st wooden house from the first set of Striders since killing either one of them gets the other in a speeding frenzy.
No, I lost more than one house in that battle. Maybe you can distract them with a missile? I'll try to aim for that achievement later.
ahh, it's been entirely to long since i've been back on moe but, it's good just to be back again. and yes i'm aiming for GoW3 and Resistance 3 also too. i'm ashame to admit if been missing alot of good DLC games since i was gone hopefully there all there for me to still experienceAZD-A9S said:

So you'll have Gears of War 3? Don't suppose you need a buddy for those Co-op achievements (Also assuming you're not one of those impatient people)?
Wait a second...Huh?
Have you played its prequels?kyoushiro said:

As far as new games go, just finished Xillia up. Haven't really put much into playing my 3DS, maybe because there's no flashcart for it yet (lolcheapreasonischeap). Vita looks interesting so far.
Xillia sounds like its never gonna make it to america with that name
nevertheless i'm excited after watching some videos uploads of the gameplay but, still it probably be a long time before its imported to americaZeninth said:

Okay I tried that half-life 2 episode 2 final battle again, lost 1 house this time (not the beginning sawmill).
I found thrown objects extremely effective against hunters, just pick up a stump and throw it at one, two hits usually do it. If you get close, you can reuse the same stump and finish your job in seconds. But the the last strider in a wave always picks up haste so you ain't gonna get away with this trick alone. Some timing or remembering the patterns might be necessary.
As for the beginning sawmill, the trick is to not kill the first one too far away from the sawmill and position yourself near the teleporter at the moment of its death. When the second one hastens up it will leave its escorts behind for a brief period of time, and that's your chance. I fired the bomb next to the teleporter killing the second strider.

What? The Very First Sawmill didn't get destroyed? Impressive...but you didn't get the achievement because of another house being destroyed. It's weird since I would think every Strider would go after the Sawmill since it's close to where the Striders would appear. Did the others skip it since you defended from the first wave of Striders?kiowa said:

Throwing objects are better? Hmm...interesting. Can it be any object or does it need to be a big object?
Wait...don't kill the first Strider too far away from the Sawmill? So I wait until it gets close / firing range to the Sawmill and then kill it? But wouldn't that make the second Strider already in firing range or will it skip and go to the next house?
Um...since you lost 1 house but not the Sawmill, which house got destroyed?
That's a lot of questions I'm asking you kiowa. Sorry man.
On a different unrelated note, my Wii is not accepting any game discs. When I insert a disc, it'll stay for some seconds, then eject it partially, then take it again, stay for some seconds like the first time, and then fully eject it. Don't know why that is but that's not good. It's worrying me.
Okay, finally nailed that Neighborhood watch achievement under normal difficulty. It would be so unchallenging if you know the trick that I almost want to make this a spoiler.AZD-A9S said:

Only 3 certain striders in the whole battle would speed up and target 3 certain different houses, the speeding frenzy is not triggered by friendly casualties but is scripted and begins when they appear. Just target them first and you can take your time finishing off the rest. The first house is the sawmill, the second house is the big house with plenty of health on the east approach and the third is a small house on the west approach. And best of all, the final wave is not interested in targeting houses.
Now the problem is how to kill them. They also have hunter escort so you need to wait until they've left their escorts behind far enough (striders at max speed are much faster than hunter escorts). However, the escorts catch up shortly so you have a narrow window of engagement.
The very first sawmill is difficult because you have mere seconds to ready yourself after the death of the first strider (the second strider appears when the first one is dead or if you take too long). So it's best to load your car with a bomb, pick another one and kill the first strider, and race to where the second one stops to charge the cannon so you can pretty much ambush that thing.
There are stumps littered all over the scenario and they are ideal against the hunters.
So those Striders are scripted to speed up but not by their friends dying? Guess I was wrong.
Yeah you're right about the Final Wave. They do seem to skip the houses and go for that missile.
Thanks kiowa. I'll copy all of that info and will attempt it again when I get the urge to play The Orange Box again.

Guys. Can I suppose that I'm totally turned down on gaming this October? Pre-ordered Battlefield 3 and the Beta turned out to be really disappointing. Pre-ordered Serious Sam 3 and it delayed all the way to Nov 25. Pre-ordered DJMAX Technika 3 but the Arcade won't show up here until Feb 2012. Funny, they're triple 3... What am I supposed to do now? Face it and live the damn on...
I got that achievement completely outta luck...AZD-A9S said:

Well possible to get it to work if you mess with it madly, go around the config files and so fort, by default it's totally unplayable, had microshuttering ( with Single GPU... how the hell they now managed that it's beyoind me ) but with tweaking it actually works....
Latest patch added the tweeking options ingame thought... but it's a joke how shitty it was at release thought. Dunno what they really thought. They still have however quite a few bugs left to solve.
Personally if your interested in the PC version, wait some months.

The problem is worse for people use AMD video cards, and dual-core CPUs. In other words me...
I'm hoping to get a refund from Steam, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes they said "guyz we know zere are problemz wiz grafical drivers but everysing workz fine on our tezt machine"
That's ridiculous. How the heck would you actually KNOW there ARE problems if your test system works FINE?
Also Commander Kaarmarck Rocketeer baby said RAGE(PC Version)'s rather problomatic and buggy release was due to "we don't see PC as the platform for gaming" or something like that.
As for me these reactions from id are just like an additional episode of South Park. It's not just dramatical. It's dramatically dramatical.
thats why i dun do pc gaming lolololol
